My path to becoming a Registered Massage Therapist began with a personal love of exercise and the profound impact it can have on mental health. In my prime I worked out an average of 1.5 - 2 hours / day - sometimes more. Many people often assumed I was vain but truthfully exercise kept me alive. It loosened the strangling hands of anxiety around my neck, and ripped the roots of my deepest depression like a weed from the ground. If I could, I'd move all day, every day. The hardest part about getting Myasthenia Gravis and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome wasn't just the physical toll - it was losing the one thing that made me feel sane, safe, and free. I didn't just lose my physical well-being. I lost my lifeline. For me exercise isn't optional, recreational or aesthetic. It's elemental. It's medicine. It's oxygen.
I have experienced chronic pain, and survived a near-fatal brain injury from birth. I was a sick child, and now, in my 40s there has not been a decade in my life where I've not had illness in some form. I am intimately acquainted with extreme physical and mental anguish. I've been a runner, a cyclist, and a yoga enthusiast. I've dabbled in swimming, boxing, volleyball and rugby. After a 16 year hiatus from exercise as medicine due to poor health and finally being put on the right medication, I am slowly getting back on track and feeling like my old self.
This experience ignited my passion for helping others find relief and healing through massage therapy. I believe that every person deserves to feel comfortable, safe, and heard during their treatment. My approach combines evidence-based techniques with genuine empathy, creating an environment where true healing can occur.
I have a special interest in working with individuals who may have had difficult experiences with healthcare in the past, those dealing with chronic pain, mental illness, and anyone seeking a therapeutic approach that honours both the body and the person. My practice is built on the principles of compassionate care, ensuring that every client feels empowered and respected throughout their healing journey.
